Definition- Armed conflict between the U.S. and Mexico in the wake of the annexation of Texas, which Mexico considered part of the country despite the 1836 Texas Revolution

Freemont, Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, John Quincy Adams, Ulysses S. Grant - later a leading general for the union , Antonio Lopez de Santa Ana - leader of Mexican forces, and Henry Clay
Clarity of emphasis- It is included because the war caused the Wilmot Proviso and the Compromise of 1850. The issue of slavery being expanded was an issue with the gain of the new land from Mexico, it caused sectionalism
