DEFINITION, KEY FIGURES, CLARITY, DISCUSSION, ANALYSIS
Definition- Book written by Harriet Stowe to show the harshness of slavery in the south and to open peoples eyes on its in-humanity. was the 2nd best selling book only beaten out by the bible at the time. north supported it while the south had harsh backlash against it.
Key Figures- Harriet Stowe (author of the book)
Clarity of emphasis- its included in this list because it made slavery a very real thing to the people who otherwise would not have any idea what slavery was really like in the south.
Discussion of its place in history- it started many arguments on if slavery really was as bad as it was (in the south). the north thought that the accusations in the book were true while the south wholeheartedly denied it and said instead that they were helping the slaves (their property) by educating them with religion and housing them
Analysis of its impact in creating the civil war- Was an attempt to show that the moral suasion of the north was right and slavery was a sin, and was not a necessary evil instead that it was a institution that no human being should have to endure. opened common peoples eyes who may not have had direct dealings with slaves in the deep south into showing the harshness of the institution.
