DEFINITION, KEY FIGURES, CLARITY, DISCUSSION, ANALYSIS
Definition- An agreement passed in 1820 between the pro-slavery South and anti-slavery North involving primarily the regulation of slavery in the western territory. It prohibited slavery in the former Louisiana Territory north of the parallel of 36, 30' except within the boundary of the proposed state of Missouri
Key Figures-Jefferson Davis, Henry clay - the great compromiser who would later go on to help with the Compromise of 1850
Clarity of emphasis-Included because it shows the sectionalism between the North and South, and also how they wanted to keep the balance of power in Congress
Discussion of its place in history- It is there because it was a temporary agreement between the two sections of the country, and for the time made both of them happy, until it was latter repealed by the Kansas-Nebraska act
Analysis of its impact in creating the civil war- led to the Civil War because it was only a temporary fix. With the ideas later of Manifest Destiny, the issues of Slave vs. Free states still existed
